Lead Rail/Locomotive Systems Design Engineer (visa transfer is acceptable but cannot provide visa sponsorship)
Direct Hire Salary- Negotiable (depending on experience), plus full benefits package and relocation 
Location: Melbourne, FL (onsite work)

Role Summary:

  • The Lead Systems Engineer will utilize experience or expertise to solve problems, develop and execute objectives for self and others, and have the ability to effect short-term and some long-term business goals on the LOCOTROL Product portfolio.
  • The selected individual doesn't need to be a hands on software engineer or developer but must understand how to design and define requirements from clients to enable developers to develop solutions for the rail/locomotive industry 
  • This is not a high tech role, but involves complex locomotive systems 
  • Must be able to lead and guide teams who will be developing the systems solutions
  • Must be familiar with or willing to learn the elaborate/complex systems required for locomotives 
  • Must be willing to be present and be actively hands on during the deployment and testing in the field
  • Must be able to provide support and troubleshoot issues for rail industry / locomotive clients
  • Must be able to travel internationally with team anywhere from 10% to 30% 

Essential Responsibilities

  • Focus on the remote controls of Locomotives and development of rail systems / solutions to increase the efficiency of Railroad operations
  • Take internal and external customer inputs and develop a backlog of tasks to distribute to your team to work in a predefined time period
  • Develop creative solutions / architectures and define / document system requirements for new and existing products, via system specifications and technical memorandums
  • Participate heavily in safety analyses and provide input into system test and validation activities
  • Provide technical support to Program Managers and Project Engineers when communicating with customers
  • Travel globally to support contract obligations, as required
  • Coordinate technical aspects and lead requisitions
  • Participate in the proposal process to ensure that sound technical solutions are offered to customers
  • Work closely with the commercial and technology teams to create system configurations differentiated in the market
  • Leverage cross-functional and cross business resources in order to maximize technical results
  • Supervise activities such as; field issues and failures investigations, root causes analysis and implementation of corrective actions, lesson learned issues, and consequently design standards update
  • Build solid relationships with key customers and suppliers


  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university (Or a High School Diploma / GED with a minimum of 5 years of Engineering or other technical experience)
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience with the design, operation, and evaluation of Control and / or Communication Systems
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience with specification generation, requirements management tools, and trace system requirements
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience working with Agile development methodologies

  • Ability to work in a cross-functional, global environment
  • Railroad industry experience
  • Experience with Locomotive interfaces and HW platforms
  • Experience with Railroad communications system
